Carpooling, also know as rideshare, can be defined as shared use of a car among the people going to same destination. Carpooling reduces the cost involved in travelling for same destination as the cost is divided among the pool members.

To understand it let us take an example. Suppose you are travelling for a particular destination daily or occasionally. Someone known to you or a passenger of the same or en route or near-by destination agrees to share the fuel, parking and maintenance cost with you, if you drop him on his destination. Well, this is what we call as carpooling. No matter, if you're a carpool provider looking for a passenger or a passenger looking for a carpool provider once you are using a car on shared basis to reach same destination, you are into a carpool.
